Tutorial: Blender Video Sequence Editor (VSE)

Written by  Gottfried Hofmann
Blender has a full-fledged video editing solution built right in - the Video Sequence Editor or short VSE. This tutorial shows how to add movies, image sequences, still images and sound plus basic keyframe animation.

The really cool thing about Blender is that it has everything you need for a complete production built-in. This tutorial will introduce you to the Video Sequence Editor or VSE, which you can use to edit your animations and real world footage. Learn how to import various forms of media, how to animate strip properties, some best practises and how export your final edit into Quicktime or the Quicktime-compatible MP4 format. If you really want to dive into the power and features of the Blender VSE check out the Blender VSE Blog by 3pointedit.

    Hey,

This is one excellent video. Short and shows all the basics.

I have spent days in trying to find out a good video editor and didn't know that Blender can do it so nicely and smoothly.

For me the only output format that worked well was XviD + MP3
h.264+AAC refused to render for some reason.

    Well done.

Hey Rosn, I remember there is an addon for this but I don't remember where to get it. Maybe you could check out blendervse.blogspot.com - there is lots of useful information for editing with the VSE :)

Very good tutorial, very suitable for my work, but there is a question I would like to ask: When several cameras shooting the clip should be several camera footage clips on the track at the same time, when INo. 1 camera screen when I select No. 1, when I need No. 2, No.3 or the camera's screen when you can select any time.I would like to ask how to achieve this functionality. Thank you!

Thank you for an really great explanation... In fact, I'd love to see you expand this with a follow-on with more advanced processing options...

    Thanks again!

    Hi..

I hit the download and it wants me to sign up for something called drop box. I don't really want to sign up for another service just to download one or two packages.

    Is there another option?

Hey jadely, I'd suggest to use the compositor for that kind of task.

Having trouble overlaying a "sniper target image" on top of raw footage taken at an actual location. Any ideas?
